Costume Themes

At this point you’ve probably realized that our wedding is Halloween themed.  And what Halloween event would be complete without costumes?  All guests are asked to attend in costumes that correspond with either the bride

chosen costume theme.  The theme your costume will be based on will depend on whether you are a guest of the bride or the groom.

Child of the pure, unclouded brow
And dreaming eyes of wonder!
Though time be fleet and I and thou
Are half a life asunder,
Thy loving smile will surely hail
The love-gift of a fairy tale.

~Lewis Carroll

Guests of the bride, get ready to relive your favorite childhood fairy tales and nursery rhymes by dressing up like them! Are you thinking of a costume that’s more traditional and well-known? Then look to Disney, the Brothers Grimm, or Mother Goose for inspiration. Want to stray from the beaten path? Then try looking up fairy tales and nursery rhymes from different countries. The Japanese, Russians, Africans, and Native Americans have some really interesting folk and fairy tales.

*NOTE: to all the men on the bride’s side, don’t despair!  Not all fairy tale characters are princesses and damsels in distress. If you’ve ever seen Shrek, you know there are a ton of male characters: Pinocchio, The Gingerbread Man, Puss in Boots, even Shrek himself! Here’s a list of characters

Groom’s Theme

“History is a myth that men agree to believe.”
~Napoleon”

Ecstactic over Einstein?  Nuts about Newton? Crazy about Cleopatra? Well obsess no more because your history buff prayers have been answered! Family and friends on the groom’s side have the unique opportunity to emulate their favorite historical figures. Who will you be?  Alexander the Great,  George Washington,  Amelia Earhart,  Marie Antoinette, Ghandi,  Moses,  JFK,  Tutankhamun,  Genghis Kahn,  Mother Teresa,  Eleanor Roosevelt, Voltron (yes, he counts)…the possibilities are endless!

A note from Benito

Benito here, I do want to emphasize that “Great figures in History” is purely subjective. Do you think “John Locke” from LOST is the greatest figure ever? Sweet. Show up as him. How about “the internet?” Perfect. Do it. Don’t limit yourself to only non-fiction characters. This is supposed to be a reflection of who YOU think is the greatest figure to emerge during our human existence.
